The months of July and August were very cold here; especially in the early mornings! It got down to the 20's! I had classes at 7:30 in the morning Tuesdays and Thursdays which was especially brutal because I would have to wake up when it was dark and cold, then walk to the bus stop(in the dark), wait for the bus(out in the cold), etc.! The public transportation is awesome here; however, even though a bus came by every 8 minutes it was very uncomfortable waiting in the 20-30 degrees and dark!
I had been wanting to take the day tour to the famous Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda's home since I arrived in Santiago, mainly because it was at a beach! For almost 6 weeks, I would check the weather forecast for the weekend and waited for a sunny day! I did not want to spend a cloudy, cold day at the beach! Finally, I found the perfect Sunday to go so booked the tour and met the rest of our little group at a hotel nearby and jumped into a little van! There were 4 of us: 2 of the women were sisters from Brazil.
Pablo Neruda named the area Isla Negra because of the black rocks that were in front of his home:
We were not allowed to take any photographs inside the home but I managed to sneak one:
Can you see the carved sculpture of the poet's head on top of the rocks?

An old anchor; part of the collection of things that the poet had collected from around the world |

Beautiful sculpture in front of the house with sea glass for the fish's eyes |
Having lunch with the 2 sisters from Brazil:
