While looking for my first teaching position, I traveled to the Peruvian Amazon. This is the Rio Madre de Dios, which is an international river running through the southeastern portion of Peru and the northwestern part of Bolivia. Among the many activities taking place on its banks include Mango plantations, gold mining, logging and agriculture, which is causing serious problems for the environment. Along the river there are several National parks, Eco Lodges, and nature preserves, like Monkey Island which was across the river from the Eco-Amazonia Lodge where I stayed for 2 nights.

Cottages the guests stayed in. Electricity on only certain hours of the day and no hot water. |

Drinking from MY water bottle. I had none left for rest of the time on the island |
